Then and now

Our History

It all started with a family…and a nice place to raise one. When Ed Sherman came to the Pacific Northwest for work, he stayed to start his own business and raise his children. After working in the direct mail business for over 20 years in both Los Angeles and Portland, Ed launched DMS in 1982. DMS moved to its current facility near the Portland International Airport in 1997 to accommodate growth of clients, employees and equipment. Ed’s sons began working for DMS as teenagers, learning every aspect of the business. They assumed management of DMS in 2003. As Chairman, Ed still serves in a management-consulting role to DMS. He can still be seen down the long hallways of his enterprise saying hello to longtime employees and watching over his family.

Honoring our heritage, DMS still provides tried-and-true direct marketing and production services — but we’ve also embraced innovation through digital services and cutting-edge printing technology. Our operations are now housed in three buildings near the Portland International Airport, and we employ more than 325 individuals. With clients in 23 states, we mail up to 50 million pieces monthly. Because of our strong foundation, DMS has evolved to exceed expectations and become the mainstay we are today.
